OMO VALLEY 16 days

01. FRI. Arrival in Addis Ababa. Transfer to the chosen hotel. Have a free morning. Afternoon (1400 hrs from the hotel) tour of the capital: visit Entoto mountain with views over the capital, the National & the Ethnographic museums, St George church and the Mercato, biggest open air market in Africa. Meals free. ON (overnight) hotel.
02. Drive to Awasa Rift Valley lake. Make a stop to the Tiya steles and then Zway Rift Valley lake for many birds. Reach Langano Rift valley lake for your lunch or a break (lunch can be in Zway or Langano). Continue to Awasa for a relaxing late afternoon walk at the shore of the lake or optional boat trip (by clients).

03. Early morning visit the fish market. Then proceed to Yabelo, visiting on the way the Guji & Sidama people, their villages, very nice views and coffee plantations.

04. Early morning drive about 1 hour + 45 minutes walk to ElSod crater where Borena men extract salt from a marshy lake by hand & sticks. The salt is used for their cattle. Visit then the singing wells where the Borena men pass to each other the water and doing this hard work they sing. If time permits visit also 1 Borena people village. Drive then to the Konso people region.

05. TUE. Morning visit a Konso people village to understand their culture and way of life, famous for their terracing agriculture and traditions. Then drive to Jinka, admiring on the way the Derase, Tsemay, Ari & Bena people + very attractive views. Before reaching Jinka visit the colorful Arkisha village market of Ari & Benna.

06. Enter into the Mago National park and admiring mammals & birds proceed the Mursi people and their villages. Here for beauty women use to put round plates into their lips while men have different scarifications all over their body. Visit their villages and culture. Then afternoon drive back to Jinka. If time permits visit the very interesting ethnographic museum in Jinka.

07. THU. Morning visit an Ari people village. Then proceed to KeyAfer village and being Thursday visit the colorful market of Tsemay and Erbore people. Proceed to Turmi and the Evangadi lodge. Ones here you can walk some minutes to visit a Hammer people village.

08. Morning drive to the Nyangatom people crossing the Omo river with small boats at Kangate. Walk to the villages & visit this other very interesting tribe of the Omo. Then back to Kangate, meet the vehicles and drive about 1 hr to visit the Karo people, for their very interesting decoration, scarification all over their body and culture. From Kortcho village you’ll enjoy also a spectacular view over the Omo river.
Late afternoon drive back to Turmi, visiting the Hamer people.

09. SAT. Morning visit Hammer people & then drive to Dimeka village to admire the very colorful Hamer, Karo and Dassanech people market. Back to Turmi for the Hammer people and villages. One of these days with luck we’ll try also to participate to the Hammer marriage ceremonies, with different activities as the bull jumping; and in the evening the Evangadi dance.

10. SUN. Drive to Omorate, at bank of Omo river, to visit the Dassanech people and their villages. Visit also the Dassanech & Nyangatom very colorful market.
Afternoon back to Turmi to relax & time with the Hammer people.

11. MON. Drive to Erbore to visit their villages and culture; are another very interesting tribe of the Omo. Then proceed to the Weyto valley and to Gato, to visit the very colorful Konso & Derase people market. After this drive to Arbaminch.

12. TUE. Drive to Chencha mountains to visit the Dorze people, with their unique culture, houses and traditions. Are famous for their elephant trunk shape houses and their cultivation of the false banana, from which root their extract the Kotcho, which is their traditional bread. Being Tuesday visit the very colorful Dorze people market at Chencha village. Optional can make an excursion walking at Maze mountain.
Late afternoon drive back to Arbaminch.

13. Morning drive to the Netch Sar National park to see spectacular views & animals as the endemic Swaynes Hartebeest, zebras & other.
Afternoon make a boat excursion on Chamo lake to admire the biggest crocodiles in Africa (reach 6 meters of length), hippos and birds.

14. Drive to the very nice Ajura falls for a very nice lunch stop. Then proceed to the Adiya people villages and visit their traditions. Drive finally to Hosana town.

15. Drive to the Guraghe people village. Then proceed to Woliso. Relax at the swimming pool. Optional horse riding and other activities are available.

16. SAT. Drive to Wonchi crater and walk down to the lake for spectacular views.
Afternoon proceed to Addis Ababa.
Lunch on the way, dinner in a traditional restaurant with folkloristic dances.
